Our Services

Draperies

There's a reason well-made draperies anchor a room the way nothing else can. At Zona's Drapery Studio, every panel is sewn from the ground up by one craftsperson — the same set of hands shaping the pleats, squaring the hems, and finishing the headers. That single-point-of-ownership approach is why our draperies hang cleanly, break evenly, and read the way a designer intended on paper.

We build to your specifications: the fabric you've chosen, the fullness your space calls for, the length that skims or puddles just so. After four decades of partnering with interior designers, we've learned that the difference between a good panel and a great one lives in the details most people never see — and those are the details we get right.

Perfect for:

  • Framing windows in formal rooms, bedrooms, or open living areas

  • Building a layered treatment with shades, blinds, or top treatments

  • Softening hard surfaces and adding depth to a finished design

Choose from:

  • Pinch, Euro, inverted, goblet, ripplefold, grommet, and rod pocket headings

  • Standard lining, interlining, or blackout construction

  • Designer's own material (COM) welcomed, with expert fabric handling

Roman Shades

Roman shades sit at the intersection of soft treatment and sharp tailoring — which is exactly what makes them tricky to build well. Folds have to land evenly. Patterns have to line up across the width. Mechanics have to operate quietly after the hundredth pull. In our workroom, each shade is measured, cut, and assembled with those pressure points in mind, so the finished piece reads as a single, intentional gesture at the window.

Whether the design calls for a clean flat Roman with crisp horizontal lines or a softer relaxed or hobbled style, we fabricate to the exact specifications of your project. Every shade is constructed on a dedicated workbench, pattern-matched by hand, and finished with the lining, banding, or trim your designer has specified.

Perfect for:

  • Rooms where draperies feel like too much but blinds feel like too little

  • Layering underneath panels or valances without visual clutter

  • Kitchens, baths, offices, and other spaces that benefit from a softer look

Choose from:

  • Flat, relaxed, hobbled, or banded styles

  • Privacy, light-filtering, or room-darkening linings

  • Corded, cordless, continuous loop, or motorized lift systems

Valances & Cornice Boards

A thoughtfully designed top treatment is often what makes a window feel finished rather than simply covered. Valances add softness, movement, and a chance to showcase a fabric detail; cornice boards introduce structure, scale, and an almost architectural sense of weight. Used alone or layered above draperies and shades, both let a designer solve proportion problems while bringing a room's palette and pattern story together.

Our workroom has built hundreds of custom top treatments across every imaginable shape and scale. Cornice faces are upholstered over sturdy, properly-built frames. Valances are pleated, swagged, or gathered with a careful eye on pattern placement and return wrap. The result is a finishing touch that feels considered — not like an afterthought.

Perfect for:

  • Hiding hardware, brackets, or uneven architectural details

  • Adding height, color, or a focal point above a window

  • Pulling together a multi-window wall or a full room scheme

Choose from:

  • Box-pleated, gathered, swag, or scalloped valance styles

  • Straight, shaped, arched, or scalloped cornice profiles

  • Banding, welting, nailhead, and contrast-trim details

Pillows

Pillows are small-scale work that demands the same discipline as anything bigger on the invoice. A cushion with a crooked welt or a print that's off by half an inch can undo the feel of an entire room. Ours are cut, sewn, and finished by the same hands that build our draperies and shades, which means pattern placement is considered, seams are straight, and corners sit the way they should.

We make pillows to a designer's exact specifications — fabric, fill, shape, trim, size. Down and feather-down inserts are standard; alternative fills are available on request. If you need a set for a bed, a sofa grouping, or a banquette run, we'll build them to read as a cohesive collection rather than a pile of one-offs.

Perfect for:

  • Completing a bed, sofa, reading chair, or banquette

  • Bringing in accent colors and textures without committing to big pieces

  • Coordinating with draperies, cushions, or bedding for a pulled-together room

Choose from:

  • Knife-edge, boxed, flanged, or welted constructions

  • Round, square, lumbar, bolster, and Euro sizes

  • Self-welt, contrast welt, brush fringe, tape trim, and tassel accents

Cushions

Custom cushions are one of those behind-the-scenes items that quietly make a space work. Built-in benches, window seats, banquettes, and breakfast nooks all depend on a well-constructed cushion to be genuinely usable — not just decorative. Ours are built to fit the exact footprint of your seating, with the right foam, the right cover construction, and the right finishing details to hold up under everyday use.

We work through your designer or directly with your project's specifications to spec foam density, fill wrap, and cover style. Indoor projects get traditional foam or foam-and-down blends; outdoor applications get marine-grade foam with performance fabrics and drainage considerations built in. Zippered covers come standard, so everything can be cleaned or refreshed down the road.

Perfect for:

  • Kitchen banquettes, window seats, and built-in benches

  • Mudroom and entry benches where durability matters

  • Outdoor seating, patio benches, and porch swings

Choose from:

  • Box-edge, knife-edge, or T-cushion shapes

  • Standard, high-resilience, or outdoor foam cores

  • Optional ties, tufting, pull tabs, or contrast welt

Bedding

A bed set well holds the room together. It's the largest piece of fabric real estate in any bedroom, and it deserves the same attention as the windows around it. We fabricate custom bedding to coordinate with drapery programs already underway or to stand on its own — duvets, coverlets, dust skirts, shams, and decorative pillows, all sized and patterned to the specifications of your project.

Because bedding gets handled every day, construction matters. Seams are reinforced where they need to be. Closures are built to last. Patterns are matched across seams and centered where they should be centered. The outcome is a bedding ensemble that looks curated rather than catalog-ordered and wears well through years of use.

Perfect for:

  • Primary bedrooms, guest suites, and children's rooms

  • Coordinating with drapery, Roman shades, or upholstered headboards

  • Creating a layered, designer-curated bed that feels intentional

Choose from:

  • Duvet covers, coverlets, quilts, bed skirts, and shams

  • Standard, queen, king, Euro, and custom specialty sizes

  • Contrast banding, monogramming, flange edges, and trim details

Upholstery

Reupholstery is where old pieces become useful again and where new builds get the fabric treatment they deserve. Whether the project is a dining set that needs refreshed seats, a headboard being fabricated from scratch, or a cherished wing chair waiting on the right fabric, our workroom treats each piece as a small custom build — not a production-line turn.

We pay attention to the things that matter: frame condition, padding build-up, pattern placement across the front and inside back, and the welt lines that either make a chair look tailored or make it look tired. The result is upholstered furniture that feels like it was always meant to wear this fabric.

Perfect for:

  • Refreshing inherited or well-loved pieces with new fabric

  • Upholstering headboards, benches, ottomans, or dining chairs

  • Coordinating seating with drapery, bedding, and cushion programs

Choose from:

  • Full reupholstery, seat-only refresh, or new-build construction

  • Traditional tight-back, tufted, channeled, or nailhead detailing

  • Designer's own material (COM) or fabric sourced through our vendors

Installation Oversight and Local Troubleshooting

When installation day arrives, careful coordination helps ensure everything comes together smoothly. At Zona’s Drapery Studio, we remain involved throughout the installation process to help confirm that each window treatment is installed correctly and reflects the design as intended.

Our team coordinates installation details and remains available for on-site guidance or adjustments if needed. Because we are local, we can respond quickly and provide hands-on support to ensure every element—from hardware placement to the final drapery hang—looks balanced and performs properly.

This level of oversight helps each project finish beautifully while maintaining the high standards of craftsmanship that define our workroom. The result is a smooth installation experience and window treatments that complete the space exactly as envisioned.
